Qin Xu (b.1993) is an active jewelry artist, fiber artist and product designer,
based in Beijing, China and New York, USA.
She graduated from the Home Product Design Department of&#38;nbsp;
the Central Academy of Fine Arts 
in 2015 with a bachelor degree, and she studied in the United States in the same year. 
She received a master of art degree in Industrial Design in 2017, 
and she is currently studying at the Metal and Jewelry Design program at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
Her personal works have been published by Chinese and American media,
such as MODERN WEEKLY, INSTYLE MAGAZINE, GQ STYLE, NYLON CHINA and VOYAGELA MAGAZINE. 
Her works have been exhibited at the UCCA (Ullens Center for Contemporary Art) in Beijing. 
In 2019, she successfully held her first solo exhibition "Little Orange Fire" at MOON HANDMADE STUDIO.

“Through using organic forms and natural materials in my art works, I want to establish a particular connection between nature and human beings on the one hand, the self, and the outside world on the other hand. The human body and nature drive me to explore the boundaries of different worlds using synaesthesia and intuition. Through the creation of works, I transform my strong emotions and mysterious sensations into entities, and lead everyone to capture the fragments of the invisible worlds that pass by. “

徐沁，生于1993年，是在中国北京和美国纽约活跃的首饰艺术家、纤维艺术家和产品设计师。
她于2015年本科毕业于中央美术学院家居产品设计系，同年赴美留学。

2017年获得美国工业设计研究生学位，
现就读于罗切斯特理工大学金属与当代首饰艺术设计系。
她的个人作品被《周末画报》《优家画报》《GQ STYLE》《Nylon尼龙》《VoyageLA Magazine》等多家中美媒体报道。

作品曾展出于北京UCCA尤伦斯当代艺术中心，并于2019年在墨念女塾成功举办自己的个展“小小橘色的火焰”。&#38;nbsp;
“我希望运用自然有机的形态和材料，建立起有关人类与自然、自我和外部世界之间奇异的关联。人体和自然之物驱使着我使用通感和直觉探索着不同世界的边界。通过作品的创作，我把自身强烈的情感和神秘性感应转换成了实体，并带领大家捕捉那些一闪而过的不可视世界的碎片。 ”

This series of works was inspired by a heartbreaking Australian fire in early 2020,&#38;nbsp;
in which thousands of animals and plants lost their lives and homes. 
I extracted four visual elements from the fire to create my work: 
scorched animal furs and skins, withered animals and plants, falling birds which inhaled poisonous air, and bright orange fire. 
I hope that by touching and feeling my work, people can empathize with the perspective of fire victims and revalue themselves as human beings.

2020

这个系列作品灵感来源于2020年初一次令人心碎的澳大利亚火灾，
数以万计的动植物在这场火灾中丧失了生命和家园。我提取了这场火灾中四个视觉元素来创作作品：
烧焦的动物皮毛和皮肤，干枯蜷缩的动物和植物，吸入毒气掉落在地面的鸟类和橘红色的烈火。
我希望通过触碰和感受我的作品，能让人站在火灾受难生灵的角度产生共情，并重新审视作为人类的价值。

The scorched animal corpse curls together like babies in the womb.&#38;nbsp;
The crimped body connects the passages of death and birth.

THREADING OF OCEAN&#38;nbsp; is a piece of wearable art that discusses the relationship 
between nature and human beings in a poetic approach.

In the story, a girl keeps salvaging objects from the ocean, such as shells, seaweed and pearls, 
symbolizing how humans take resources from nature while it practices tolerance.

在海之卷的故事里，女孩在海边得到线轴，

Chameleon is an architectural wearable jewelry installation of a chameleon's living environment. 
Crafted with materials recycled from my personal clothing that I wore over years, 
this project explores the mystery and singularity of this reptile in human mythology and interpretation in current times.
The chameleon’s unique appearance and characteristics also symbolize who I am both physically and spiritually.

《变色龙》是一个可佩戴的首饰装置系列，这个具有雕塑感的作品塑造了一只变色龙与它生活的环境。
我从自己穿戴多年的私人衣物和物品中回收提取材料，
探索着古老的爬行动物在人类学中所隐喻的神秘性和当代生活语境中的象征性。
变色龙独有的外表和生物属性同时也象征着我自身的外貌和性格。

FRUIT is a sculpture created for my solo exhibition Little Orange Fire held in summer 2019. 
According to the characteristics of the exhibition space, 
I made several floriferous spiders and placed them on plants around the environment. 
People who admire and want to take them away wish to “pick fruits from trees or take them from tableware”.

《果实》是我特别为在2019年举行的个展《小小橘色的火焰》而作的雕塑作品。
依据展览空间的特点我创作了许多花型的蜘蛛，并把它们展示在了植物搭建的环境之中。
每一只蜘蛛成为了自然界身负花朵的一枚果实。
来欣赏的人们如果要带走它们，就如从树上采摘或食具中拿取走果实。

TONING&#38;nbsp; is a project with experimental materials, 
in that I transformed warm&#38;nbsp;and soft fiber&#38;nbsp;materials into a magnificent cold-blooded animal. 
Through the capturing of animal anthropomorphized emotions and&#38;nbsp;the contrast&#38;nbsp;of&#38;nbsp;materials&#38;nbsp;used, 
the strangeness of the natural world is demonstrated.

我用温软柔和的材料呈现出了一只外表瑰丽的冷血动物，

SHELL SPOONS

The inspiration for this work comes from my grandmother. 
I accidentally discovered a shell-shaped scar on her leg,
 and she told me that this scar was gouged out by a shell when she was a child. 
 I believe the scar is like a mark left by nature on my grandmother’s skin. 
The shells are not only the spoons in nature, 
but are also a metaphor for hurt.


 Through
this work, I hope to convey my respect for nature and encourage people to embrace their
miserableness. 
Because our world, life, and nature are all the components of
beautiful and painful.

《贝勺》的灵感源自于我的外婆。
有一天我发现她的腿上有一个贝壳形状和颜色的伤疤。
原来是在她小的时候，她的膝盖被河边的一块贝壳剜去了一块肉。
这个伤疤就像是自然给她皮肤留下的一个记号。
我认为贝壳不仅是属于大自然的勺子，也是伤痛的隐喻。
因为我们的世界，生命和自然都是又美又痛的。

MANDRAKE DOLL

MANDRAKE series: more than 20 pieces are
all made of recycled women’s clothes. While investigating the mythological
roles shared by both Chinese and Western cultures, I use mandrake grass, a
mysterious plant with a human form, as the connection point between humans and nature.
Humans make clothes&#38;nbsp; by processing natural materials such as
plants. When clothes are worn on people as underwear, part of the memory of
nature also attaches to people. As a result, Mandrake dolls made from clothing
of different ages, have become monsters with their own personality. In my work,
recycled clothes as the main material are not only environmentally friendly,
but also support the concept of the work.

《蔓德拉娃娃》作品中的20多个娃娃都由女性的二手贴身衣物所制成。
通过对中西方神话的研究，以蔓德拉草半人半植物的形象来比喻人与自然的联系。自古以来，人类使用天然材料来制作衣物。当这些衣物穿在人身上时，一部分来自自然的记忆就存在于人的身上了。所以当我收集不同年代的二手衣物制作成蔓德拉草娃娃，每一个娃娃都带有了自己的特性。在这个作品中，回收二手衣物作为材料不仅体现了环保性，还与我想表达的主题息息相关。
